30th July 2013Buttermere revisited: Camping between two lakes

We visit the Buttermere area quite regularly, and this time was so that Giles could begin the rather ridiculous challenge he set himself - to hike up 24 of the Lake District’s highest peaks within 24 hours. He did it to raise money for Duddon and Furness Mountain Rescue Team - one of the Western Lake District teams and a cause that any fellwalker should be aware of.

11th July 2013A walk from Whitehaven to St Bees

These last few days I have had to take time out to remind myself that I haven't just died and gone to heaven. With the sun beating down and the mercury regularly hitting the mid-twenties, the Western Lake District is like paradise and I have taken every chance to make hay and explore.

4th July 2013Woolfest: an expert’s view

Woolfest 2013 was a lot of fun this year, but to give you an expert’s eye on things we thought we would let Giles’ mum Pat - who is a knitting fanatic - give her take on how it went from the eye of a needler.

I knit a bit and, as my family know, no birthday is safe from one of my creations.
