Our incredible coast
Whether you enjoy birdwatching, invigorating coastal walks or sampling the finest, freshest local seafood, this beautiful, coastal landscape has something to tempt you.
20th December 2013An ideal winter stroll: Muncaster Fell
With the shortest day and winter weather upon us we are in the season of the short stroll rather than the day-long wander. For me walks at this time of year are ideally not too long and, even better, not too far from a pub.
13th December 2013Hunday Sunday and scallops from heaven
If you are anything like me, then Sunday is probably one of those days when you are in need of a bit of a treat. As the door of freedom closes on the weekend and the chasm of Monday yawns ever closer it can be easy to get a bit down in the mouth.
So last weekend, in search of an antidote to blue Sunday, we headed off in search of a bit of luxury in the form of the Hunday Manor Hotel.
6th December 2013Beaches, mountains, Chianti and pizza: Guess where I am...?
After a morning spent wandering on the beach in the sun I settled down for a glass of Chianti and a delicious pizza while enjoying a view of snow-capped mountains. It may sound as though I am describing a relaxed lunch in Italy, but in fact I was nowhere else but Gosforth in the Western Lake District.
What with it being December, I had not been tempted to take a dip during my visit to Seascale beach, but had instead enjoyed the kind of bracing, cobweb-clearing wander that gets your tummy rumbling.
