Ravenglass Roman Bath House

Ravenglass Roman Bath House

An English Heritage site, the ruins of the bath house at Ravenglass Roman fort, established in AD 130, is one of the tallest Roman structures surviving in northern Britain - the walls stand almost four metres tall. The fort at Ravenglass was occupied for almost 300 years, guarding what was probably a useful harbour. There is also evidence that soldiers stationed here served in Hadrian's fleet... in fact, while you're in the area why not pay a visit to Hadrian's Wall?

Visit in spring and you could get the chance to see their amazing courtship dance! We also have three species of tern - see them close-up, our hide is only 35 yards from their nests - as well as a family friendly nature trail with marsh and bee orchids adding colour to the flower-rich grasslands.
